Medieval Wool Hat with Fur Trim

Inspired by early hat finds such as those uncovered from 8th-10th century Birka, and later medieval hats found and depicted throughout Eastern and central Europe from 14th-16th centuries.

Handmade with care, these hats are double layered - wool on the outside, black thick linen on the inner lining, trimmed with fur (recycled mink or rabbit). Seams are finished by hand with a blanket stitch out of wool thread. A beautiful winter hat for those who grow tired of the typical modern styles.

Please note, the fur trim used in these hats was recycled from my own collection of vintage fur collars from the 40s-50s. All fur has been meticulously steamed, frozen for over a month, and steamed again for the sake of preventing any future moth damage. It is recommended that you provide similar care for fur items at least once a year.
